Jonas Wood Art Artist Prints Plants Technique
Jonas Wood is an interesting painter based out of Los Angeles, which has a rich art history including the legendary Ferus Gallery. The artist, was born and raised in Boston, experiments with painting that borders on figurative work and abstract. His interior scenes fracture into a variety of geometric shapes and vivid colors, and the subject matter falls heavily on suburban themes. Wood’s style has been described as a cross between Cubism and Pop Art, and there has also been comparisons to David Hockney’s whimsical landscapes of American suburban life. Jonas searches for beauty in the ordinary and every day objects. I especially like his paintings of clipped plants in pots with pictures of shaped landscapes which are so simple, and yet, so effective. Some of these pieces remind of my piece Aloe, which recently sold to a collector in New Jersey. His wife, Shio Kusaka, is also an artist. Jonas has shown work at Gagosian and Saatchi, and is represented by the David Kordansky Gallery and the Anton Kern Gallery.
