Fun Fact: Caño Cristales, or Crystal Channel, is a Colombian river in the Serrania de la Macarena province of Meta. The river is commonly called the “Liquid Rainbow” because of its insane colors. The vibrant colors of the river are due to Macarenia clavigera, which a species of the riverweed family. The conditions in the water have to be just right for the aquatic plants to become very colorful…including an intense purple.
