Warhol and Basquiat

Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat were very different artists that formed a deep friendship in the 1980s. Basquiat idolized Warhol and was able to become part of his inner circle after he became well-known. This friendship is portrayed very well in the Julian Schnabel biopic about Basquiat with great performances by Jeffrey Wright and David Bowie. After Basquiat left Annina Nosei Gallery in 1982, he ended up working with Bruno Bischofberger as his primary dealer. Bruno was already Warhol’s dealer, so he suggested a collaboration show featuring both artists. Basquiat and Warhol were both famously photographed with boxing gloves. These promotional posters have become very iconic, and this is my minimal digital interpretation pop art portrait.
